Say hello to the Kiwi Kids! Rosie and her siblings were born last September to a mom who moved to Texas all the way from New Zealand! Mom is a mix of Border Collie and Huntaway, which is a sheep-herding breed in/from New Zealand. Dad was believed to be the neighbor's Clumber Spaniel.
Rosie looks like a small Huntaway dog. Based on what we've learned, at around 30 lbs each our Kiwi Kids are only half the size of a typical Huntaway, so apparently mom's Border Collie genes have played a big role in determining their size.
These pups have been raised on a farm and have only recently moved inside the house, but they have already decided that air conditioning is pure heaven. They are picking up very quickly on all the skills they will need to be perfect house pets -- house/potty-training, crate-training, leash-training, and that most important skill -- curling up to nap on the sofa and looking extremely cute.
On the farm where they were born, they met dog-savvy barn cats but would need careful introductions to live inside a home with cats. They have also met many dogs, first on the farm and now here at Windsong Ranch. They seem a little intimidated by our big dogs, but sit quietly for introductions. They are curious about our little Yorkie and seem relieved to see a dog smaller than they are. They play really well with each other but haven't been here long enough to try playing outside the family circle. All together, these pups can get rambunctious, but one-on-one with people, they are much calmer and very affectionate. Rosie's favorite place is snuggled with YOU or if you're not available, curled up in her favorite armchair.
The Kiwi Kids have been fully vetted, so they are ready to find their forever homes, preferably with space on the sofa for a dog who will probably not get bigger than about 35-40 lbs. They are available for adoption in Texas or New Jersey/Northeast.
