Cowgirl landed in the shelter earlier this Spring as a stray, and was adopted by a family with children and a cat. The family LOVED Cowgirl! She was great with their kids AND their cat.  Unfortunately, their landlord is apparently not a fan of big dogs and threatened to evict if they kept her. So back to the shelter she went. With severe overcrowding at shelters all over Texas, there came a day when the shelter staff was having to make tough decisions about who lives and who dies, and Cowgirl was at risk. Thankfully, the shelter reached out to us to see if we could help, and we made space for Cowgirl and one other dog, so no lives were lost that day.

Since coming to Windsong Ranch, Cowgirl has been what we call an easy keeper. She is reliably house/potty-trained. She doesn't really LIKE the crate, but she will go inside if we ask her to; we usually bribe her with a good treat and that can work wonders. Cowgirl gets along well with other dogs and has even managed to get a couple of our older grumpy dogs to play with her. She occasionally goes into the chicken yard with us, and she ignores the chickens. As the song says, she's "easy like Sunday morning."

Cowgirl is still young enough to like chew toys and bones, so we keep her supplied with those. She hasn't chewed anything she's not supposed to, but we would recommend not leaving too many things in her path to tempt her. After having fostered so many dogs and puppies, we developed the habit of putting our TV remote on a high shelf, and putting our shoes in the closet and close the door. So she really hasn't had the chance to get into too much trouble here, but if you adopt Cowgirl, you'll want to be sure YOU adopt similar habits and keep her supplied with chew toys and bones.

You can read about our adoption process on our website, and complete the application while you're there. Adoption Information (bluebonnetrescue.org)  Cowgirl's adoption fee is $325.
