Lancer is one of Elsa's pups, born here on Windsong Ranch. When Elsa and Olaf were removed from the home of a backyard breeder in Arizona, they were together in a small pen. Considering their circumstances, we should have realized that she might be bred, but when she arrived at the shelter, she was thin and had signs of having recently weaned a litter of pups, so it didn't occur to any of her rescuers that she was pregnant. After three weeks of getting good food in the shelter in AZ, and after a week of more good food at Windsong Ranch, Elsa finally started to look like she was filling out nicely. She never looked fat at all. Then one day, it was clear that she was coming into milk. But considering that we were pretty sure her last litter of puppies were only about 5 - 6 months old, it was hard to believe she could be pregnant again. I called and talked to the vet -- could it be a false pregnancy brought on by the stress of her long journey? He said that was possible, but said pregnancy was also possible. Didn't take long to get the answer -- on December 17th, 4 weeks after arriving in Texas, Elsa delivered 12 puppies.
